Now let us take a look at another internet marketing arena that is responsible for millions and millions in expenses and income, which is Network Marketing, including Multi Level Marketing, MLM, but not limited to that industry. These are some of the ways that will help the marketer become trusted and build relationships that lead to personal and financial freedom. This system of online marketing does take time, sometimes months, before you can achieve the results you want. However, it works and is very worthwhile for those who do it well!

I have experimented with alot of affiliate programs and networks from the very small to big ones. However, I must say this again “No networks/programs fit all”. You can be good at this but bad at others. Many bloggers are very good at clickbank but never make any passive income from CJ or Amazon.

Here are the top 5 affiliate networks that I have made some decent money with for a while and all of them are good, reliable with a lot of big advertisers and vendors that you can promote and make cash.

1. Commission Junction:
CJ is still the #1 affiliate network that I make the most. It is easy to join as member but it is a bit hard to get approved by big and popular advertisers here like Hostgator, Yahoo or GoDaddy. You need to contact them personally through it email feature rather than click on the button “Apply for program”.

Most of big advertisers here set decline status for any new applications. That is why you see your application declined immediately. My advice is to contact them and wait. If they deny, just ask for the reason and show your interest in promoting their merchindise. You will likely to get approved soon.

2. ShareASale:
More difficult to join Shareasale for international as you have to submit your tax form that takes time. Further, you can not join PPC programs if your first payment has not been made. That means you must make extreme wealth from CPA or cost per leads first and then wait for your payment completed, your status limitation will be removed. You are now eligible to join PPC.

I love Shareasale because their support is great. There are a lot of vendors here that you can join and promote their services. Thesis theme and Headway themes also switched to use shareasale for their affiliate program too.

3. Amazon:
Most of you know Amazon and it is a great network to work with. If you have a shopping sites, Amazon could be the best option with a lot of features and items you can place on and generate extra income.

I have made a little income from Amazon as I do not have shopping site now. However, I see its potentials and I do really admire Darren Rowse as he has made a lot from Amazon too and he also shared 10 lessons learnt for his readers too. My plan is to set up a shopping site sooner to optimize Amazon revenue too.

4. ClickBank:
Clickbank is the #1 affiliate network for digital merchindise and services that have paid more than $1.5 billions to its publishers. I have just maded very little from it but it will definitely increases sooner or later when I focus on it.

You can easily find the right merchindise or services to promote and your earning stats will be tracked in real time. I do not have to pay for vendors directly. All payment must go through clickbank and their support is awesome and on timely manner.

The most important thing is that clickbank vendors pay high commissions for publishers. You can make up to 90% of what you have sold. That is why many bloggers love it.

5. Avangate:
Avangate is new to me too. However, there are many good products there that you can promote and the commission rate is high too. I have joined avangate just because CouponPress is using it as affiliate program. However, I love it now as there are many other softwares and merchindise that I can promote here.

One thing you should remember about Avangate is that you can get your payment through PayPal. This is what I love it too. Other affiliate networks above use check as the main payment method that takes a long time to settle.

You might not think that your blog is big enough to find sponsors (and you might be right) but even if you’re unsuccessful in finding one you will hopefully learn a thing or two about finding sponsors and might even start a relationship that could be fruitful at some point in the future.

Getting a sponsor for your blog (or selling an advertising spot directly without relying upon an ad network like AdSense) is a great thing for alot reasons – not the least of which is that you cut out the middleman and don’t have to share the profit with a company like Google!

It’s not always easy to land a sponsor – but it’s a skill that bloggers wanting to earn income from their blog pages should learn – even in the early days.

A few tips for finding a sponsor:

1. Before you go out and start asking companies to sponsor your blog read these two posts – Finding Advertisers for your Blog and 10 Ways to make your Blog more Attractive to Advertisers. A big part of finding an advertiser is to get your blog in order first and to be prepared for what they might ask you.

2. If you have a smaller blog and haven’t had a sponsor before don’t aim for the stars straight away. It might be worth starting out by approaching smaller retailers, websites or companies in your niche and see if they’d be interested in some sort of partnership rather than aiming for the very biggest ones right up front. I did this a couple of months after starting my first ipod blog and emailed 10 online ipod sites to see if they’d be interested in advertising. 3 of the 10 bought small ads on my site (I think it was for something around $15-$25 a month). It wasn’t a lot of cash (and I didn’t have a lot of traffic to send to them) but I learned so much and made a little income in the process.

3. Target Potential Advertiser Carefully – before you start approaching potential sponsors think carefully about your blog and the topic that you write about and about who might want to reach your readers. Brainstorm a list of companies and websites that might fit the bill.

4. Wondering who to approach? Why not check out who is advertising on other websites and blogs in your niche. Quite often they’ll also be open to running a similar campaign with you.

5. If a sponsor isn’t sure whether to go with you or not – give them a discounted or free trial. I’ve done this a number of times and found it beneficial on three levels:

It gives the sponsor a taste of what your blog can offer
It can help get your readers used to the idea of advertising on your blog
I’ve found that having one advertiser (even if it’s a free one) can actually attract other advertisers (or at least make selling sponsorships easier)
You’ll learn a lot by getting the ad up, finding out how it converts and at a discounted rate you’ll even earn a few dollars
6. Find an Angle and Sell it – don’t just email a potential sponsor asking if they want to advertise with you – sell yourself. If your blog has a loyal community of core readers then sell this, if you get a lot of search engine traffic for certain keywords that the advertiser would want to have, sell it to them on this, if you have an audience who is researching to make purchases – this is a key selling point and if you’ve never had an advertiser before on your blog – turn this into a selling point. You need to give a potential sponsor or advertiser a reason to align their brand with yours.

7. If you can’t attract anyone – run a campaign of your own. Pick a part of your blog that you want to drive traffic to (perhaps a post, or a category, or a subscribe page) and develop a button or banner ads to drive traffic to it. The beauty of this is that you can test your conversion rates on different positions. Run a heat map test and you’ll learn a lot.

8. If you do manage to sign up a sponsor give sponsors as much value as possible. Do everything you can to over deliver on the campaign. Announce the sponsorship on the blog with a post, mention it any other newsletters or lists that you have, position it high on the page, consider throwing in a bonus text link in another part of your blog etc. The more traffic you can deliver to your sponsor the more chance of getting them to renew.

How Much income streams Do I make from Blogging?

I get asked how much cash my blogging make on a regular basis. These days I don’t go into specifics about it – all I will say is that it continues to be well over six figures per year (but less than seven figures). What you’ll find below are my top income streams – ranked from highest earnings to lowest.

I hope you find it useful to see the mix and variety of ways that I earn a living from blogging.

AdSense- Despite not using it here at wealth creations network any more I continue to use AdSense with real effect on my other blogs. While I do use AdSense Referrals and their search feature it is their normal ads that work best for me. I have them all set to show image and text based ads and find that 250×300 pixel ads work best (usually with a blended design).

Chitika- Last time I did this sort of summary Chitika ranked #1. This time around it has been overtaken by AdSense – not because Chitika slipped in how much it earned but because AdSense went up and because I also replaced a few Chitika ad units with WidgetBucks ones. Chitika offers a range of ad units that I experiment with. I find their eMiniMalls work best and that Related Product Units are also good. Their Shoplincs product isn’t performing as well as it once did for me – mainly because I’ve been promoting it less and have driven less traffic to it. Over the time I’ve been using Chitika they’ve now earned me over a quarter of a million dollars!

Amazon Associates- This has been one of my big movers in the last 12 months. I used to earn a few odd dollars from it – however in recent times it has become a significant earner for me (as I’ve shared previously). This quarter it overtook TLA as my third biggest earner – largely on the back of me directing traffic to Amazon from my product related sites – mainly digital cameras. While the commission on cameras is only 4% this adds up when those that you refer buy higher ticket items.

Text Link Ads- The income from TLA has dipped slightly over the last few months simply because I took the decision to stop selling them here at wealth creations network and most of my other blogs. This was because I wanted to focus more upon selling the 125 pixel ads instead and felt that the ads I was attracting were not as relevant to this site as they could have been. As it turns out this might have been a good move because it seems Google has been penalizing blogs that run them lately.

Wealth Creations Network Boards- The boards here at wealth creations network continue to grow each month in the number of advertisements that are being bought. This enabled me to invest most of the large profits that they’d earned a while back into getting a new back end for the boards and to redesign them. It hit me today that the boards are now bringing in around $1000 a month in revenue which is pretty nice considering that they are now so low maintenance to run! I’ve just given a development team a new brief to expand the job boards in the coming month so stay tuned for some new features coming soon which could see this revenue increase and more importantly for it to become an even more useful resource to readers.

Miscellaneous Affiliate Programs- I run a variety of affiliate programs on my blogs – most of which bring in smaller amounts of wealth that don’t really justify a category of their own. This area is set to continue to grow in the current quarter with me having had reasonable conversions from the promotion of the excellent teaching courses available on www.wealthcreationsnetwork.com.

Miscellaneous Advertising Programs- I also play with a number of other ad companies. Some I run as tests to see if I should review them here – and some are just advertising that run in the background on some of my smaller blogs. These include AuctionAds, Feedburner RSS ads, Vizu (a poll advertising system), Kontera and Bidvertiser. Together these don’t add up to major earnings for me – not because they are not good, but because I don’t use them heavily (a blog can only run so many ads on it).

I think that that covers most of it. Since last quarter I’ve also been experimenting with WidgetBucks as well as one other ad system that is still in a closed beta test. I’m certain that WidgetBucks will feature in next quarter’s list because I am getting good returns on that so far. In fact at it’s current earnings it’ll debut at at least number 4 on the list and perhaps even at number 3.

How Much do I Spend? As mentioned last time – I don’t spend a lot of profits in order to bring in my income. I do have some basic blogging costs (hosting etc) and play around with a limited amount of advertising (AdWords and StumbleUpon) but rely more heavily upon word of mouth and organic ways of drawing income into my blogs. I also have some costs in paying writers on a couple of blogs – but these don’t make up a massive part of the overall earnings each quarter.

• Google Adsense Program is Favorite Internet Marketers! | Mesothelioma Survivor

The Amazon Associates Program is well worth considering for some bloggers. I use it and this month it’ll make me over $3500 USD – not my biggest income stream, but not the ‘pennies and dimes’ that some say it has the potential to earn.

To bring a little balance to the debate over the Amazon Affiliate program I thought I’d give a few reasons that I am an Amazon Affiliate:

1. Amazon is a trusted Brand – I surveyed some of my readers a year back and asked them to give me a list of online stores that they had made purchases from in the last 12 months. Amazon came up number 1 as the most popular shopping destination mentioned. Readers know Amazon and are familiar with it – they trust it and do spend significant income there.

2. Commissions – Bill writes that he’s not satisfied with a 4% commission. He’s right in some ways, 4% isn’t that much when you’re selling a $10 book – however when you’re selling a Get a Price on the $5000 Camera or a $25,000 Tractor (I know someone who does quite well out of ride on mowers and tractors) it certainly adds up. Not only that, the 4% rate that Bill talks about is the base rate. Unfortunately it is as high as it goes on consumer electronics – however on most other products there is a sliding scale where the more you sell the higher your commission goes to. Sell more than 6 items in a month and your commission goes to 6% – sell over 630 and you’re up to 8% (the rate I’m on). The 4-Hour work Week that Bill uses as an example earned me around $1 a book. Still not a lot – but I did sell 100 or so of them (after my interview with it’s author) which not only earned me $100 but also helped push the numbers of sales up for the month, moving me into the next earning bracket.

3. People Buy More than One Item – the great thing about Amazon is that you don’t just make a commission on the product that you people to, but anything that they buy once they’re at Amazon. I did an experiment earlier in the year where I published a review of a digital photography book on my blog and placed a tracking code in the link to see how much the review made me specifically. What I found was that the product in the review did quite well – but the sales of other products that people made once they got to Amazon was actually much greater than the sales of the actual book. People went on to buy all manner of products (other books, electronics, cosmetics etc) – I earned a commission on each one of them – now that’s passive income. You make a commission on anything that a person buys within 24 hours of you sending them to Amazon.

4. Easily Integrated – There are more and more plugins and tools that have Amazon Affiliate integration built into them to help you easily place links in your blog posts. I use ecto for Mac which has a tool that searches for products and links them in in just a couple of clicks. WP has plugins also. The affiliate links already mentioned in this post took seconds to integrate in.

5. Payment Options – Amazon pays their affiliates in a number of ways. One of the things that I like is that they give you the option to be paid in products instead of cash. I don’t do this every month (I couldn’t spend that $20,000+ a year at Amazon… well maybe I could) but occasionally do and use it as prizes for blog readers. I recently offered DPS readers $500 of Amazon products in a forum signup competition. The prize is paid for out of my affiliate earnings.

6. Small Payments Add Up – In my early days of earning income from blogs I didn’t have the luxury of picking and choosing my income streams as much as I (and other full time bloggers) now do. I needed to earn cash somewhere and even the small amounts that Amazon brought in were better than nothing. Over time these payments began to add up. In the early days I didn’t even earn enough for a minimum payment amount and had to wait a few months before they’d pay me – but those pay outs were milestones that I celebrated. If I’d not gone with Amazon because they didn’t earn me a lot I might not have gone with any ad networks or affiliate programs – sometimes you have to take what you can get.

7. It’s an Investment that Matures Over Time – My approach with Amazon is to treat it a little like a savings account or an investment that you put a little into each week and which matures in it’s earnings over time. What do I mean by this? I add links to Amazon over time and find that in doing so I’m creating more and more doorways into the Amazon store. Each time I do I increase the chances of sending someone to Amazon and seeing returns on those visits.

8. The Holidays are Boom Time – While I’m really happy with the way my Amazon Affiliate income is growing ($3500 a month is so far beyond what I’d ever expected from it in the early days) it’s worth noting that things really fire up in the lead up to Christmas and the holiday season. Over the last few years I’ve noticed significant jumps in Amazon earnings in December as much as 100%. The key is to plan ahead make sure your links are all up to date a couple of months out and run a few Christmas specific posts in the lead up to the Holiday rush start to prepare as early as October/November.

9. Wide Array of Products – What initially attracted me to using Amazon’s Affiliate program was the breadth of products that they had in their system. This is a great thing if you’re niche is narrow or quite obscure as many bloggers find it difficult to find affiliate programs to match their blog’s focus. Options for affiliate programs (which is why I don’t use it a lot on this blog and make most of my earnings from Amazon from product related blogs) but many bloggers don’t have the luxury of being able to choose high paying affiliate programs because they simply don’t relate to our topics. Amazon then becomes one of the more attractive options.

So is the Amazon Affiliate Program for you?

I can’t answer that question for everyone – I won’t pretend that it works brilliantly on every blog but I know quite a few bloggers earning significant earnings each month from the program. Blogs with a strong product focus can do quite well through the program if links to Amazon are well integrated into posts (see some of the links below for tips). I would advise moderation in using the program – don’t place them in every post you write unless they are relevant. Links placed in genuinely helpful reviews do better than links and banners in sidebars.

The best way to see if it converts is to give it a go.

I’ve been reflecting this week about the amazing diversity of opportunities that are opening up for bloggers to earn tons of money from blogging. I’ve long advised that bloggers seeking to make huge profits from blogging spread their interests across multiple revenue streams so as not to put all their eggs in one basket. The wonderful thing is that this is becoming easier and easier to do and many options opening up. I thought I’d take a look at some of the methods that bloggers are currently using to earn lots of money through blogs.

Income Streams for Bloggers – How to Earn huge profits Blogging

Advertising Programs – Perhaps the most obvious changes in the past few months have been with the addition of a variety of viable advertising options for bloggers looking to earn big profits from their blogs. The most common way bloggers seem to earn extreme wealth online is via the contextual ad program from Google – Adsense.

Azoogle Ads, Intelli Txt, DoubleClick, Tribal Fusion, Adbrite, Clicksor, AdHearUs, Kanoodle, Pheedo, TextAds, Bidvertiser, Fastclick and Value Click (to name just some of the options) and there is a smorgasbord of options. Of course there is more to come with MSN Adcenter and YPN both in beta testing and with a variety of other advertising system currently in development (YPN is only available to US publishers).

Lastly there’s BlogAds – one of the first blog specific ad networks.

RSS Advertising – The past 12 months have seen some advances in RSS Advertising also. I’m yet to hear of any bloggers earning big income blogging through it to this point – but as improvements are made to the ad programs exploring this I’m sure we’ll start to see examples of it being profitable.

Sponsorship – In addition to the array of promotional programs that are available to join there is a growing awareness in the business of the value and opportunity that exists for them to advertise directly on blogs. I’m hearing more and more examples of this and have been fortunate to have a couple of ad campaigns of my own in the past. These are not isolated cases – as I say I know of many blogs exploring sponsorship with advertisers at present and suspect we’ll see more of it in the year ahead. Sponsorship is also happening on a post by post basis with some bloggers being paid to write on certain topics by companies – either in one off or a regular fashion – and they are able to generate big income streams from their blogs doing so.

Affiliate Programs – There are larger affiliate programs like Amazon, Linkshare, Clickbank and Commission Junction but also literally thousands of others from the large to the very small.

Digital Assets – Increasing numbers of bloggers have been developing other digital assets to support and add revenue streams to their blogs. By this I mean that I’m increasingly seeing e-books, courses and tele-seminars being run by bloggers.

Blog Network Opportunities – with the rise in popularity of Blog Networks – bloggers are also being presented with more places to earn an income from their blogging – by writing for and with others. While it might be difficult to get a writing gig with one of the bigger networks – there are plenty who are always asking for new bloggers to join and who are willing to pay bloggers using a variety of payment models. While there are distinct advantages of blogging for yourself – blogging for an established network who will handle a lot of the set up/promotion/admin/SEO etc has it’s advantages also. More and more bloggers are combining writing for themselves on their own blogs with taking on blog network blogs as additional income streams.

Business Blog Writing Opportunities – as blogging has risen in it’s profile as a medium more and more businesses are starting blogs. Many of these companies have internal staff take on blogging duties – but an increasing number of them are hiring specialist bloggers to come on and run their blogs. I know of a number of bloggers who in the past month or two have been approached for such paid work. Check out Bloggers for Hire if you’re looking for this type of work.

Non Blogging Writing Opportunities – Also becoming more common are bloggers being hired to write in non blogging mediums. Manolo’s recent coup of a column in the Washington Post is just one example of this as bloggers are increasingly being approached to write for newspapers, magazines and other non blog websites. Along side this is the rise of bloggers as published book authors – this is to the extent that one blogger I spoke with this week complained to me that they were one of the few bloggers than they knew who didn’t have a book deal!

Donations – Tip Jars and donation buttons have been a part of blogging for years now but this last year saw a number of bloggers go full time after fund raising drives.

Flipping Blogs – Also more common was the practice of ‘Blog Flipping’ – or selling of blogs. This has happened both on an individual blog level ,but also on a network level (the most obvious of these being the 8 figure sale of Weblogs Inc to AOL).

Merchandising – an increasing number of bloggers are attempting to generate a few extra dollars from their blogs by selling branded products through programs like Cafepress. Quite a few larger blogs are seeing significant sales – especially blogs with a cult following.

Consulting and Speaking – While it has been popular for established consultants to add blogs to their businesses we’re also starting to see bloggers with no consulting background able to make cash streams by charging readers for their time in consulting scenarios BECAUSE of the profile that their blogs have built them. Blogging has the ability to establish people as experts on niche topics and we all know the value of being perceived as an expert. I spoke to one blogger last month who charges himself out at over $200 an hour for speaking and consulting work – his area of expertise was something that he knew little about 18 months ago – but through his blog he’s become a leader in his field and a minor celebrity in his industry.

We now turn our attention to ways of making income streams from blogging that are more indirect in nature – or how to earn cash streams because of your blog rather than from it. Many of the following methods are the result of the profile and perceived expertise of the blogger themselves (whereas many of the direct methods mentioned previously are less reliant upon this). Building a profile as a blogger doesn’t happen quickly and starting a blog with some of these hopes should be seen as a long term thing.

Ways to earn cash flow online and offline:

・Consulting– when you are perceived as an expert on a topic you will find that people naturally come to you for advice – some of them willing to pay for it. Some niches are probably better positioned than others for their bloggers to get into paid consultancy work of course. I spoke with one blogger recently (blogging in a business/technology field) who was able to charge himself out at $600 per hour to give advice to a large company [now thats truly a earn cash streams from home concept.]. Interestingly I have heard of a number of companies in the last 6 months who are developing VOIP services that bloggers will be able to add to their sidebars to enable them to be called by readers for consulting. The systems would have per minute rate on them to automate this consulting process.

・Business Blogging– Similarly there are some businesses who employ people to blog for them either as their main role or part of their role. One example of a company who employed a couple of bloggers was Vespa who now have two blogs . BloggerJobs is one site worth following if you’re looking for these types of jobs. Most of the jobs there are from blog networks but occasionally they include businesses looking for bloggers also.

・Book Deals– Some days as I read through the RSS feeds that I follow it seems that every blogger I read has a book either in progress or coming out. Once again its about being seen as an expert in your field – if you can achieve this you will find publishers are more receptive to having an idea pitched to them and at times will even seek you out. This is becoming more and more common with publishers as they are seeing not only some great writers but that many of them already have large amounts of content on their blogs ready to be pulled together into a book!

・Offline Writing Gigs– Manolo from Shooeblogs recently landed a writing gig in the Washington Post Express after he was discovered via his blog. These types of opportunities can be in the form of newspapers, magazines, trade publications etc.

・Online Writing Gigs– Similarly some bloggers also land jobs writing for other forms of websites as a result of being discovered from their blogs.

・Selling e-resources– I wasn’t sure whether to classify this as direct or indirect (and depending upon how you do it you could probably go either way) but some bloggers are leveraging the expertise they have in an area by putting together their own e-products such as e-books, tele-seminars, courses etc and selling them to their readers.

・Business Partnerships– One of the benefits of blogging about a niche topic that interests you is that you will begin to connect with others who have similar interests and expertise and this catapolts your chances in making money online. As you interact with them its amazing to see the opportunities for working together that arise.

・Speaking Opportunities– Once again this is dependent upon the topic youre writing about, but some lucky bloggers end up with all kinds of opportunities to speak at conferences, workshops and seminars on their topic of choice. Sometimes they are freebies, other times the conference will cover costs and on other occasions there are speakers fees. If you’re planning to use some of these indirect ways of making income streams because of your blog it’s important that you think seriously about building your own profile and credibility as a blogger.

Think about the types of people that you respect and look to as experts an consider what they offer in their fields. These people are generally original thinkers that not only report what others are doing, but who provide answers and vision for their industry. They are also often well networked and have the ability to draw others along with them.

What does this mean for your blog? Here’s where I’d start:
・ provide useful content that shows an understanding of your niche.
・ network within your niche. Work on being connected with other key players (big and small).
・ use your blog not only to report and rehash news but to also show initiative in proposing solutions. Be proactive in your blogging and lead the conversation rather than just react to it.

These people are generally original thinkers that not only report what others are doing, but who provide answers and vision for their industry. They are also often well networked and have the ability to draw others along with them. What does this mean for your blog?
Here’s where I’d start:
